tactics of World War II.

air threats.

aboard the latest in modern warship design, the U.S. Navy’s DDG-51 Arleigh
Burke.

Surface Combatant: The destroyer fulfills a vital role in modern surface
fleets. It is a very balanced design, capable of both fleet air defense and
anti-submarine warfare. See how these qualities have evolved since the
destroyers of World War II.

Shape of the Future: The USS Arleigh Burke is a radical new departure in
destroyer design. Its new hull shape gives it unique handling capabilities
even in the roughest seas.

devoid of weapons. Hidden in the bowels of the ship is an impressive array
of sophisticated missiles that give the modern destroyer more firepower than
older ship many times its size.

Electric Ship: Board the USS Arleigh Burke and see how the sophisticated
electronic sensors on the ship contribute to its combat capabilities.  From its
most-mounted radar to its hull-mounted sonar, the Burke represents the
peak of naval warship design.
